Watch the slideshow to see how the checkerboard floor has found its way into kitchens.
I been seeing so many examples of checkerboard floor kitchens I wanted to show them all! Instead, I chose ten wonderful floors with different effects: high gloss, semi gloss, medium scale, cool, bright, small-scale Victorian style, optical pattern, ambered by natural wood, and high contrast. Checkerboard floors come in a variety of pattern sizes and colors. Some are done by alternating light and dark in tiles from the same material. That can range from marble to linoleum and any type of tile in between. Other checkerboard floors are skillfully painted on wood or other surfaces. Depending on the color and surfaces each floor has its own unique looks and charm that adds distinction to any kitchen.

This is my favorite floor pattern, Jane! I have always wanted a black and white checkerboard floor. I’m still holding out hope! Maybe when we have to redo the carpet in our new place I can talk my hubby into it for our sunroom.
The softer look of the first one is great (we had 2 browns in a checkerboard patterned floor in our last house, and I LOVED it). Other favorites in this set is the black and white floor with the more subdued gray-green (?) cabinets, and the awesome stainless variation.
Black and white checkerboard floors always remind me of black and white saddle shoes. Classic and sharp.
Is this slide-show thing a snazzy new gadget for the blog?
BTW, I agree with your comment on my blog. (thanks for coming by and weighing in) I commented back that you’re totally right. I’m not being too hard on myself about not meeting that list. But I’m probably not finding the me time you suggested either…
When I first was planning my kitchen I was going red — thought about a red and white check floor.
Yes, slideshow is new — good way to show many images without such a long string. There’s a little grid on the top that toggles to stills as well.
I can understand the advantages of not having the long string of pics, but I like to go up and down, looking and comparing…sort of side by side in a different way… And I missed that with the slide show. Just my own way of looking at things. 😉
See the 4 little gray squares there on the top, to the right of the word Next? Click on those and stills will pop up so you can browse the kitchens next to each other.
Would we let you miss even a speck in a quartz counter? No way sistah!
I’ve always loved checkerboard floor pattern in a kitchen. I love the retro feel of it…
