A wallpapered kitchen ceiling adds tone-on-tone pattern that is repeated with tile.
The all-white kitchen trend peaked several years ago but the look just keeps on coming. So these days, keeping a white kitchen from looking generic requires a special design strategy. In this New York City apartment, designer Christina Murphy used tons of bright color and bold pattern — including black and white zigzag Pattern Behind the Shelves in the living room. But things went quiet in the kitchen. There, the pattern moved to tone-on-tone diamonds in a wallpapered kitchen ceiling that is something of a surprise. Perhaps to emphasize the tray ceiling, the interlocking circle pattern of Schumacher’s silver and white Modern Nature Spherica wallpaper adds a subtle texture and ability to catch and reflect a small amount of light. Since heat rises, hopefully it’s a durable surface. Walker Zanger backsplash tile diamonds coordinate beautifully with the ceiling pattern and marries well with the white Thassos marble counters and table top. Yellow stool cushions add a springlike freshness.
