Picture Wall Sets

picture wall sets of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera drawings - Met Home via AtticmagPicture wall sets make an impact with their multiple rows and same size frames.

After a picture wall set of six antique Alexandre Bivort prints in my dining room (I purchased them at auction last January), I began exploring what to do on the adjacent wall. I still haven’t decided but a glimpse of a dining room picture wall in a favorite TV show, The Good Wife, made me think of acquiring an even larger series. I couldn’t find a photo of that wall  (if anyone has it as a screen grab, please share) but I did find four which are equally attractive and show different options.

A dozen original Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera drawings of the same size [top] were hung over a sofa as a set — even though they are not. Giving them identical frames and mats, and placing them close together almost makes them appear to have an exterior frame.  The black lines seem to continue over the spaces in between.

In an expansive home in Indonesia, one room is devoted to the owner’s collection of English prints (historical landscapes). Identically framed, they are hung six deep – essentially from floor to ceiling — even behind a display case filled with ceramics. Thirty prints are displayed on the right-hand wall [above] and the look continues around the room. At this density, the prints take on a the same impact as a textured wall covering which, essentially, is how they function. While this look poses problems for furniture it would be ideal for one side of a wide hallway .

picture wall sets - wall of fashion prints over a console table - Domino via AtticmagThe living room of a young woman, who also decorates with flea market finds in West L.A., features a set of ten 1950s fashion illustrations of Dior and Givenchy ensembles. Purchased at a bookstore in Italy, the print are mounted in frames with a variety of finishes but all the same size. They really hold the wall above a 9-inch deep flea market walnut console table and the variation in the frames gives the overall effect a casual looseness.
