Pairing a vintage marble sink with an unconventional modern wash stand creates a unique bathroom look.
A soft spot in my heart goes to salvaged house fixtures like this vintage marble sink. The look in this powder room shows the totally unique result vintage pieces can provide. Sinks like this French 18th century brown marble basin are being copied in other materials today, so finding an original is a real coup. The, rather than go with a conventional wood vanity, this heavy baby was boldly mounted on a stainless steel kitchen cart, drilled to accommodate plumbing connections. The cart is a perfect size and simply placing it on the top shelf lets the chiseled bottom show. The cart also sturdy enough to support the sink and the angled handle frame it and provide integral towel bars. objects on the lower shelves conceal the plumbing and provide the much-needed storage. The wall-mounted faucet, set low to help prevent splashing, is in tune with the style of the cart while a large, unframed circular mirror contributes generic balance. Traditional or modern the combination works. Why else would it matter?
