This classic kitchen, with a marble backsplash, is a treasured clip from my reno notebook.
Gray marble on a low the backsplash matches the counter. Back when I was first looking for kitchen ideas this compact kitchen sink looked so elegant. The farm sink is large and under mounted with a fashionable bridge faucet. The Viking dishwasher looks brutish in this context but the idea of pro-style appliances was new enough to show in magazines. I loved this charming old-house kitchen with double windows above the sink and another one nearby. Overhead, there are small, over-the-sink pendant lights hanging from plaster ceiling rosettes in addition to a school house pendant in the center. The high ceiling permitted the addition of a handsome over-window display shelf supported by decorative brackets. And we get a glimpse of a built in SubZero in a cabinet that doesn’t go tro the top of the ceiling because it’s just too high. The restaurant style work table coordinates with the refrigerator and dishwasher and provides an affordable alternative to a fitted island constructed from matching white cabinets. Another great touch is the old-fashioned corrugated tin garbage pail standing off to the side.
