A double hutch kitchen done in natural pine is a deceptively simple designer kitchen
Natural pine was the theme for designer Mariette Himes Gomez’ double hutch kitchen. A family kitchen with two big pieces of furniture placed side by side, the hutches fill one entire wall. A pair of hutches offer good storage and display. One (left) is composed of a top cabinet that hangs on the wall over a bottom dresser. The top section of its counterpart sits directly on the base cabinet. It’s a graceful solution that avoids a “great wall” effect — essentially too much of a good thing. Nearby, the big cream-colored Aga cooker is a clue to the location of the kitchen: Ireland. True Aga cookers are always so they are best suited to cool climates. It’s also interesting to see an unpainted, natural wood hood over the cooker and a plain yellow painted wall behind it. Usually there is tile behind an Aga as protection against the heat.
The family dining table also helps present a kind of homey simplicity that belies the size of the space and designer pedigree.
