Original and timeless, this Greenwich Village kitchen has salvage features to give it vintage style.
Ever since I first saw these photos of a wonderful kitchen in restaurateur Brian McNally’s Greenwich Village town house I have loved every detail. Plus it’s loaded with ideas: a vintage sink with integral backsplash, subway tile over the soffit and to the ceiling, antique French plate rack, basket storage and the open shelving in lieu of upper cabinets. There are two Asko dishwashers plus a commercial range and freestanding refrigerator. Under the hanging pot rack is an English style worktable with slatted shelf on the bottom — a good match for the wide-plank pine floor. Manhattan townhouses are often small. So the kitchen — complete with skylight — was built into an addition and made to look old. Even the metal-framed windows over the sink were salvaged — these came from a building at Yale University. The sink was found at Vermont Salvage.
