Home painting tips from a pro for DIY paint projects.
The weather this past winter had its way with the frame of my house numbers sign. Things became so bad the interior section literally peeled apart and had to be rebuilt. The frame section that’s mounted in the ground hadn’t been painted in three years so it’s time for some scraping, sanding and at least two, if not three, new coats of white paint. Then I’ll need to replace the stencil and redo the house numbers in black. That project will take a lot of time and preparation. Usually, I can get our friend and painter Terry to help me out on the finishing but right now, he’s too busy with bigger jobs.
I like to paint and I’m not bad at painting but, because I’m far from expert, I always take a few minutes to see if there are any paint-company videos that can give me new and helpful information. Most are just blah blah or the presenter is totally annoying. But this one, from Dunn and Edwards, taught me five useful tricks to make painting easier:
♦how to get the most from sandpaper
♦how to prepare brushes and roller covers for painting
♦how to use a 5-in-1 painters tool
♦how to handle and clean paint rollers
♦how to be brush-ready before painting
The best and most interesting segment is on the 5-in-1 painter’s tool – I’ve never seen an explanation of how to use one of those. There’s also a neat way to dispose of a wet paint roller without having it drip all over (which usually happens to me). If only for that information, I feel the video is worth the 2-minutes or so to view.
