Beauty of the Details

embroidered chairs in a dining room by Cathy Kincaid Interiors - house beautiful via atticmagAn important element of interior design is attention to details such as embroidered chairs.

It isn’t the things that jump out and catch your eye as you enter a room, that are important  The little things that make a house truly beautiful are particulars which are not immediately noticed. I originally spotted these embroidered chairs in a magazine and almost immediately tore it out for future reference.  The evocative design, high-quality materials and artisanal craftsmanship took my breath away. Embroidery is an old art which take a great deal of time and skill. Today, it’s no longer widely practiced and rarely found on upholstered furniture any more. So when there is a lovely example, it can be a treasure.

Kincaid collaborated with the custom embroidery company of Penn & Fletcher on the oak leaf and acorn design for these dining room chairs.  Penn and Fletcher, basked in New York City, specializes in custom embroidery. The artisanal company’s motto, ‘painting with stitches,”  shows in the elegant needlework on these chairs. The backs are given some embellishment with complementary double gimp detailing.

The kind of attention they represent also may be seen in pieces like the pair of oak-leaf chandeliers in the great room. One hangs over the dining table there and provided the inspiration for the embroidery.  Still, the beauty of the details blend into the room, enhancing its overall feel. In my book, that’s called timeless perfection.
