Natural tree branch decor is especially attractive and rustic as staircase banisters.
Tree branch decor isn’t a new idea. But using tree branches indoors is not often seen because getting just the right branch, and making it fit perfectly, take considerable carpentry skills. The organic shapes and textures of tree branch decor compliment each of these waterside cottages. After all, what goes better with nature than nature? The simple balusters on this staircase end with a natural newel post that is emphasized by the stone walls. The soft gray stair treads, floor and built-ins relate to the stone’s mortar and washed wood overhead, creating an inviting entrance.
A paper birch handrail flows freely along these stairs. Risers are painted white, while the treads are left unstained — another nod to Mother Nature. Notice anything missing in each of these pictures? Neither staircase has a wall string — the decorative pieces that run against the wall. Leaving them off gives a stronger visual connection between the stairs and the walls, especially the stone.
