Modern ideas for wooden room dividers that help conquer and enhance open spaces.
With students heading back to college this week I’ve seen several dorm rooms that belong to the children of friends. Their biggest dilemma seemed to be how to divide the space in order to create distinct areas. Adults sometimes face this same problem while living in studio apartments or lofts. One choice is a wooden room divider, which adds texture and color to the room rather than the standard curtains hanging from the ceiling, or bookcase dividers. After spying a headboard in a Frette linen showroom, the owner of a NYC studio apartment had a room divider made using the same reclaimed wood material. The floor to ceiling wall divider creates a cocoon-like sleeping space and its solidity has light blocking qualities. The bed’s platform extends into a “bedside table” running the entire length of the mattress and creating a place for a laptop, books and glasses as well as a bench of sorts.

I like the ‘headboard’ idea, but the pallets are a touch too homeless bag lady for me – must be losing my courage!
Hi Allison! This write up is great. I am in love with the first NYC room divider. Any idea where I could get more info on this piece? Is it available for purchase? Thanks!
Shernaz, the studio apartment owner fell in love with a showroom headboard made from old wood, so he had the look recreated for his space using reclaimed barn wood.
