Built in modern dining room storage eliminates the need to display dishes or glassware.
I frequently focus on kitchen appliances and storage features that are home décor tricksters. Occasionally we see something similar in other home spaces like the dining room storage in this room. I always admire the way storage features are integrated into the architecture of the kitchen because the intention is to have them blend in rather than stand out. So when our co-founder Jane T saw the clever surprise concealed in this chic dining room she sent me this story. What’s so fresh is the way the storage closets look like woodwork built to showcase banquette seating and chairs. Those are combined to create an intimate nook and completely eliminating the look of a dining room “set.”
I have a negative view of matching dining room display furniture. I feel it’s passé and a truly valid expression of “matchy-matchy,” which isn’t a term I use often. Instead, I favor ways to increase functionality in a dining room most people use less than they otherwise might. I have been detailed in past posts on Dining Room Personalities and Breaking the Dining Room Mold.

Love this idea! I can see the little finger latch in the pic with the open door, but they really disappear when closed. This is definitely going in my inspiration files. Thanks for sharing.
I have mixed reaction to this one. So opposite, I can’t really decipher my own opinion. I think the secret storage is cool. I like the combo banquette/dining set. I like the clean lines of it all.
But I miss the warmth, color, and homeyness of display options a bit (although never a fan of formal china cabinets, as a whole), and the size and style of the storage columns seem a bit imposing and close in the bench so much/so deeply.
Even with the negative side, still an interesting concept…and I’d go for it over the matchy-matchy table, chairs, and freestanding china hutch any day.
