Minimal Furniture

minimal furniture - minimalist loft living room by Andy Goldsborough via AtticmagRooms with minimal furniture depend on a few well chosen pieces and the right colors.

I favor minimal furniture — a few, well-chosen pieces in my home. Because we’ve just moved — and combined two houses into one – furniture has been an issue. Some people want rooms chock full and highly accessorized. That’s because we like a feeling of space around things and are not much for arranged clutter. I know from blogland that vignettes and accessories — stuff — are highly prized as expressions of taste. For me, less is truly more. That’s why I admire the sparse sleekness in these three rooms.

A modern sectional installed as a banquette can maximize seating.  While this one looks a little stiff and is missing a ew back pillows, the design is for an apartment where entertaining involves relatively large groups, which it will accomodate. Big, low wall sconces are a clever source of light that is absent from the low ceilings. A grand lounge chair in a hot color makes for an easy destination if someone is home alone. I like the way the light floor blends withe the walls and keeps the backdrop neutral so the colors, such as they are, work very hard in the space.

minimalist furniture - mid-century library with modern furniture by Bruce Bolander via AtticmagThe mid-century, color-block aura in this west coast room helps it look comfortable even though there are only two places to sit. It must be a den with that lounge chair but it’s odd to find a sofa facing away from a double-sided fireplace, no? Some of the warmth (in addition to the palette)  comes from the wood-paneled ceiling and the matching orange and red hues in the geometric rug.

minimalist furniture - gray and white minimalist bedroom by Andy Goldsborough via AtticmagIn a bedroom, the clean lines of a low bed and the lightly scaled bedside tables give an illusion of space – spiked by the absence of color. Even the large painting gray seems to float over the bed. I do like this spare look in a bedroom as it adds the illusion of airiness and a comfortable place to breathe.

Is this blogging as antidote Jane? Don’t worry, the duplication and clutter will clear – enjoy the holiday!

I diagnose a case of clutteritis too. :~) It will soon be cleared and your bedroom too will be a haven like photo #3.

Yes, it’s probably true that I’m having a reaction. This is the first time I have lived in once place since the mid-80s. No storage (at least for no). So those interiors are looking so good to me! I wish I knew who said “simplicity is luxury.”
