Color Poem

dining room with hydrangea blue and cabbage green color scheme - WOI via AtticmagHydrangea blue and cabbage green are color inspirations from the garden to use together inside.

Last weekend, a neighbor invited me down to see her new apartment which was in the final stages of construction. The color was wonderful! A fair amount of finishing work and some fixes remained, but the rooms were freshly painted, floors were newly finished and the lighting fixtures were up. She had already mapped out the furniture plan but what drew me most were the various shades of blue-green throughout the apartment and the pale sea green and blue rug she had planned for the living room. Back at my desk, there were magazines to thumb and I came upon the amazing hydrangea blue and cabbage green table and chair vignette. After seeing my neighbor’s apartment I immediate connected to the color scheme. I just love this combination.

indigo blue color mosaic tiles in a modern bathroom with a lettuce green towel - Veranda via AtticmagThen I spotted the green towel against an indigo blue glass-mosaic tile wall in a stunning modern bathroom. I think that dark color tile in the bathroom is tricky unless there also is a good deal of natural light. That’s certainly present in this shower with the high window. Otherwise, the bath needs to be very brightly lit. But at night I can see how dark blue tile feels comforting. Like an early morning sky.

blue and green color Jean-Loup Daraux living room in the South of France - House Beautiful via Atticmag I also remembered one of my all-time favorite French living rooms in the home of decorator and garden designer Jean-Loup Daraux, author of “By the Light of the Sea.” For his house in Provence,  Daraux mixes garden blues and greens seamlessly tiny touches of indigo with Delft tiles around the fireplace. The formal faux-painted woodwork echoes the color scheme with the addition of a pale shade of light brown to represent marble panels. It’s busy as may old-fashioned rooms are. But the mix of colors also feels unforgettable.
