Powder room sinks help set the styles for guest baths — from modern to traditional.
Here’s the thing about powder room sinks: the focus is often on the style of the vanity instead of the basin. But for me, the sink’s the thing. That’s why I especially favor statement-making sinks in powder rooms. A fabulous lavabo can be mounted on top of a conventional vanity, or on the wall, on a piece of furniture, or even on top of a plank and still make the point. The more original and memorable the sink, the more successful the look.
Each of these powder room sinks fits a certain style in its own way. As a classic, the stone punchbowl vessel sink [top] is a beauty. It’s made to look rustic by the weathered wood platform it’s resting on but the square slab on the wall helps keep it modern. This sink would be equally stunning with more contemporary faucets than English style pillar taps. But that’s what makes it timeless.
Nothing says vintage like this small enameled wall mounted basin. It reminds me of a bath fixture from a Depression era movie and it gives me a huge case of sink envy! What a great mid-century style piece for an eclectic house of the same era or, even better, a bungalow. While the white sink pops against the dark background, the choice of wallpaper and accessories do pull in a different direction. Either way, this is a statement-maker, right down to its old fashioned drain plug on a chain.
Blue and white Chinese porcelain never goes out of style. And it especially suits the powder room in a historic Southampton, New York home. The Federal era house was not professionally decorated. The owner furnished it with things he loves and collects. That includes the antique burled veneer side table used for the powder room vanity. Along with toile wallpaper, the French style brass bridge faucet, and marble slab backsplash and the message is clear: traditional can be interesting and vibrant, too.

Hi Kerry,
I don’t have the source for that exact sink but Treasures de Old Mexico makes the Silvana, a similar vessel sink and in a variety of stones and colors. Here’s a link to the page:
