Silver and white holiday accessories are classic, seasonal and make for elegant tables and vignettes.
Several color schemes are associated with the Christmas holidays, chief among them red and green. But I almost prefer glamorous frosty holidays with white and silver accessories — colors associated with sterling and snow.
On a glass top buffet table [top], the look is simple but festive. The tall, melon-form white vase is stuffed with white spider orchids and two smaller vases also contain small scale flowers. The rule of threes is used for staging here. Three white vases of different heights and three silver bowls of different sizes. Additional hammered silver table ware and a white bowl holding a pasta salad round out the look. This would be a particularly pretty table by candlelight, too.
For any vignette, tone-on-tone can easily be expressed with metallics such as this mercury-glass style vase. Mercury glass objects have gone from the world of obscure antiques to accessible and modern over the past few years so this need not be an expensive piece. The silver look gives it maximum impact, especially when it contains silver ornaments, which can be wire wrapped together as these balls and acorns are, or added individually. The look could be varied by mixing pastels or gold ornaments in with the silver ones. Even a vase and ornament combination as successful as this one can be a point of departure, depending on budget and what can be found.
A handy source for floral supplies, ornaments and a wide variety of other decorative accessories is JamaliGarden, in New York which can quickly become a holiday addiction. You have been warned! While I could easily content myself with the website, it’s a good source to put on the list for my next trip downtown. Modern textured glass objects such as candlesticks or wine glasses are widely available and, provided the textures and white tones are consistent, the spirit of this table is easily achieved.
