If someone told you they were doing a kitchen sink bathroom what would you think?
I might think that bath would have “everything,” as the cliché goes. But in a New York apartment it’s literally a kitchen sink bathroom where a cast iron enamel farm sink is installed in the custom wood vanity. It’s rare to find a designer bath with a kitchen sink. But leave it to the Irish-born Clodagh, an interior and accessories designer based in New York. Clodagh also is a tile designer for Ann Sacks. “I like simple massive surfaces that people can put things down on,” was her comment about this bath [top]. “I don’t like anything ditzy.”
Nothing ditzy here. Quite the opposite, which is why I like it so much. Fortunately, this master bath is very large. There are slate tile walls and floors and the space to place the vanity on a floating partition done in matching wood. The vanity top is also wood and beautifully integrated with the drawers. No marble is needed here — there is sufficient stone on the walls and floor. A white cast iron enamel sink, Kohler’s Whitehaven, is centered is in the vanity with a mirror backsplash behind it. The 30-inch size, which is 9-inches deep, has a nice scale in this long cabinet. A storage unit sits across the aisle from the sink to help keep things uncluttered. With no need for a medicine cabinet, the Kohler Purist faucets are wall-mounted over a mirrored backsplash. A pair of Art Deco style sconces, by Clodagh, flank the mirror and provide necessary illumination. As the designer says, there is a large expanse of counter on each side and the overall impression is that of a luxury spa — a specialty that clearly benefits the fortunate couple who live in this comfortable space.

My new favorite bathroom look! So practical, too. I hate tiny bathroom sinks.
