No instructions needed to create this useful patio screen made from hinged salvage doors.
It’s that time of the year when we start to move outside and revive our outdoor spaces. And having a substantial folding screen on a patio or in the yard can be an excellent way to create privacy. Screens can come in many forms from trellis to hedges. But a or even a cottage style arrangement of old hinged salvage doors makes a privacy feature that’s tall, substantial and also portable.
To create a screen from by hinging four old salvage doors like these, I’d head directly to the nearest architectural salvage yard, the local dump, or any thrift store that takes household effects. I also pay attention to pieces put out on the curb for giveaway or around dumpsters on construction sites. We happen to have a good salvage yard nearby where I found my current front door for $60! Doors for a patio screen need not match but they should be the same height. If the colors are different they can, of course be painted.
Even if the doors aren’t as salvage-pretty as chippy white ones [top] there’s always a way to add color and texture or even faux-painted architectural details. So the next time I see an old door out on the curb, I’ll grab it. Even the plainest door can be turned into a useful patio feature.
