When there’s no space for a fabulous swinging porch bed, like the one Allison recently installed on her veranda, why not consider a swinging porch sofa? The scale is less demanding but the effect is the same – romantic and comfortable. On an Anglo-Indian style porch in California [top] an exotic-wood swinging porch sofa hangs from massive carved wood temple columns that create a focal point along the bamboo-draped wall. While not especially cushy, this one has a dramatic carved back and hard seat along with a definite “wow” factor.
Designer Madeline Stuart doubled down on a Santa Barbara porch by cloning an original Gustav Stickley porch swing, then had the original and the copy face off. I have my theory about which is which but no matter. The clean Craftsman lines give them an especially inviting simplicity that makes a pedigree seem beside the point.
