Yule Simple

simple white holiday flower bouquet includes pointsettias and hyrdrangea in a porcelain tureen - Veranda via AtticmagSimple bouquets of fresh white flowers add a frosty glow and natural fragrance to holiday decorations.

During the holidays simple white flowers can be pretty, festive and offer a change of pace from the traditional palette for decorations.  While I love red berries and pointsettias, white flowers look snowy and festive with pine boughs and other greenery in quite a different way. Bouquets of simple white flowers can be assembled from a wide range of flowers. White hydrangeas and pointsettias were cut short and mixed with lemon leaves then displayed in an oval white porcelain tureen on a chest in the entry hall. A pair of antique brass lamps enliven the vignette below a simple wreath adored with pinecones and ornaments. Keeping flowers white makes them neutral so they don’t compete with other ornaments.

The nearly white appearance pale greenish-white tinge of hellebores looks especially glamorous in a gold-bronze vase. These also mix well with natural green pine boughs on the stone console table. Against the dark pine branches these flowers read as a tone-on-tone choice.

A series of contemporary glass vases (which can be very inexpensive) of different sizes and heights decorate a dining room side table with small-scale white flowers and candlelight. Some of the vases are filled with sprays of white cymbidium orchids while others simply hold tea lights floating in water. Multiple small flames will give any room a romantic, old-world look and floating tea lights in water has a very magical quality when the lights are turned low.

So the white flowers continue the theme while the flickering of multiple lights helps create a fairy-like effect in this dining room. Tea lights are simple to float in any type of glass vase.
