Christmas Room Variations

December 5, 2010 by Jane F 12 Comments

Christmas room - Christmas decorated foyer with a tree beneath the stairs - House & Garden via AtticmagChristmas room decorating includes an unexpected variety of locations for holiday décor.

This has been such a hectic season it wouldn’t surprise me if many of us were a bit tardy in getting to our seasonal Christmas room decorating tasks. While most people have their traditions which dictate where the tree and the gifts are put each year, some like to put a festive mood throughout the house. So I thought these alternative spots and strategies offer some interesting ideas.

Tree in the Foyer – A small Norway spruce, dusted with white snow spray, is parked in the nook in front of the stairwell and right in front of a hallway chest. The cotton rug provides a makeshift tree skirt and surface for presents while giving focus to the open area. This says Merry Christmas to every guest who enters the house.

Christmas room - Christmas decorated chandelier wreath over an old table on the porch - House & Garden via AtticmagPresents on the Porch – An oversized eucalyptus and pine wreath, suspended from the ceiling by metal-reinforced ribbon, almost looks like a chandelier in disguise, especially over a large hall table. It also enhances the decorations on top of the table which include candles, books and small gifts that might get lost under the tree. The antique wire birdcage with Delft handle is an ingenious solution to having pillar candles lit for a long period of time with no worries about safety.

Christmas room - Master bedroom canopy bed with Christmas decorations and gifts - House and Garden via Atticmag Bedroom Gifts – Christmas morning can be very intimate in the bedroom. Here, under the charming pie crust bed canopy a trio of stellar paper shades imbue the bedroom with holiday spirit. It’s fun to see the stars out all day and night and to pile up gifts at the foot of the bed in anticipation of Christmas morning. Just bring on the coffee and Danish.

Allison may be decorating for both of us this year. Every time I walk past a flower shop and see cut pine-boughs I think ‘I should get started” but I just haven’t yet. I’m so late!

Such lovely images that should inspire us all. Sadly I don’t think I’m being inspired to do anything…If these photos don’t inspire me I am a lost cause…now…I should at least decorate a little tree!!!

Really good ideas here! I only wish my foyer were large enough to accommodate a tree.

These are just gorgeous pictures! I feel like they are simpler than what I put myself through and I’m already rethinking for next year!
