A solid bronze tub inspired this lavender fantasy bather’s retreat.
Eclectic and just a little gaudy, this lavender fantasy bath takes a Las Vegas approach to decorating. Devoid of standard furniture and fixtures, the room is reserved for indulging in the pure pleasure of relaxation and daydreaming. The tub, made from virgin copper and tin, was cast in an historic mold, then polished by a fabricator in Turkey. The tub is an authentic hand-sculpted reproduction of a style that originated with the Romans and was used for centuries by adding pails of water heated over a fire. Here, it is paired with a modern Dornbracht “Tara” floor-mounted tub filler in a custom copper finish.
Venetian plaster walls are painted a soothing custom lavender hue and feature rounded corners. A floor-to-ceiling picture window rises from limestone flooring inlaid with mosaics and brings nature indoors with a view of a private garden. Two shagreen (sharkskin-covered) tables on casters hold necessary amenities and can be moved about.
Gazing above, the bather can escape back to the time of the Caesars with a Grotesque-style mural designed and hand-painted on the ceiling by Italian artist George Dawnay.
