A red refrigerator cabinet is painted in a Valentine heart color called Heartthrob.
Clever use of color, light, and accessories raise this modest Ikea galley kitchen — with its red refrigerator cabinet — to a level of distinction. Superbly done on a budget, the kitchen takes advantage of Ikea’s modern style with slab front white Appläd cabinets with Lansa handles. Ikea is also the source for the double sink with integral drainboard and with a stylish Blanco Master Gourmet faucet. Also from Ikea: the signature hanging utility rail for paper towels and other necessities.
The height of the ceiling and the mid-20th century modern windows present clear issues in a kitchen. That’s why building the Kitchen Aid refrigerator into its own cabinet smack in the middle of the sink wall — and then painting the cabinet a Valentine red called Heartthrob (from Sherwin Williams) — is so unique. Usually a refrigerator is placed on the end of a cabinet wall. Here, the fridge cabinet color breaks up the space and creates a visual hot zone and an unlikely focal point in the center. There’s little competition from the neutrals. The gold wall color (Sherwin Williams’ Bagel) is not an obvious choice with the red cabinet but one that keeps things sunny with light coming through clerestory windows just above the ceiling. Individual and unforgettable, this kitchen shows why Ikea has so many kitchen fans and how much value the Swedish retailer provides to kitchen renovations.

I like this ktichen a lot but would like it even more if they had used some red accents in a few other areas to balance the red walls housing the refrigerator. I have these Applad doors with Vinna handles (similar to these used here). Also have the butcher block counter tops. We have a pro stainless stove with an IKEA stainless hood so it looks very professional, especially with matte white subway tiles and Grundtal shelving on the walls around stove. We have matte black and white 12 inch porcelain tiles on our floor (checkerboard layout).
