A beloved color on china and dishware, cobalt blue moves to kitchen cabinets.
Cobalt blue seems a logical choice for kitchen cabinets in a beach house kitchen. Yet this dark blue hue is not often seen. In this kitchen cobalt blue goes high gloss on the sink wall cabinets and on the island. With a white backsplash and farm sink and light gray counters the color makes this kitchen’s palette unique. While some designers would have toned down the red oak floor, keeping it natural tied in with the Welsh cupboard in a natural wood finish. While reddish highlights in the floor and hutch accent the blue, they don’t compete. What’s also interesting in in this large kitchen is to find the sink and cooktop on the same stretch of counter. That arrangement is most often seen in European kitchens where space is tight. But I believe kitchens should be designed to reflect the personality and needs of the owner. In this case, it’s a staunch lover of blue and white.
