Animal Themed Pottery

animal themed pottery with fox by Tasha McKelvey via Atticmag

Made to order pottery perfect for holiday gift giving.

The holidays are coming! The holidays are coming!  I know, I know…   Even though I don’t like to see holiday decorations out before Halloween, it is time to start ordering gifts for friends and loved ones that require custom order lead times.  Tasha McKelvey creates animal themed pottery — clay work intended to be useful, “art that is mean to be touched.”  The fox mini dish [above] is made of high-fired white stoneware, thrown on the potter’s wheel, with a hand-sculpted fox.  And you can choose your own pottery color.  It’s just the right size to hold cheese or store jewelry.… Continue Reading

Felted Wool Pillows

felted wool pillows by Alison Cannon - Woollymama Fiber Art via Atticmag

A collection of handmade decorative pillows.

Alison Cannon experimented in many different art forums over the years, but she fell in love with the medium of felted wool. Inspiration for her felted wool pillow designs come from the textures and shapes in nature, as well as the funky 70’s.  Pillow fronts are created using a combination of appliqué, layering techniques and esoteric Japanese Shibori which is a group of special binding, pleating and stitching methods adapted to materials. The pillow backs feature solid colors with hand quilting [below] while pillow faces have  rich colors and playful contemporary designs. Each pillow is both a lovely crafts piece and a work of hand-stitched art.… Continue Reading

Digital Print Floor Mats

digital print floor mats by Domestic Construction

A unique flooring alternative that will fool the eyes.

Our youngest daughter has been looking for a new rug to go in her foyer area.  The problem has been finding a floor covering that can hold up to traffic without quickly getting dirty (then needing to replace) and fits her eclectic style.  I may have found just the ticket when I ran across the digital printed mats by Domestic Construction.  Original hand-cut paper designs are digitally printed onto a poly-face that is fused to a skid-resistant rubber backing.  Their low profile allows doors to easily pass over.  As if the colors and designs aren’t beautiful on their own, the mats are also machine washable. … Continue Reading
