The annual San Francisco Decorator Showcase opened on Wednesday giving me the opportunity to meet some of the Bay Area's finest designers. This year's featured home is a 10,000 square foot Georgian brick mansion currently for sale in Pacific Heights. Built in 1910, it has been a true homestead to various owners. Children have been raised and several married in this home that is perfect for hosting gala affairs. The luxury of having one of the first residential elevators in the city afforded easy access to the four levels, which include a ballroom and penthouse. An unusually large side driveway provides precious parking space (always at a premium) for up to 10 cars leading to the rear garage.

Close to 40 designers were part of this year's showcase and there was much to see, so be sure to come back tomorrow for more pictures.

Today, we start with the <strong>entry</strong> and <strong>upper hallway</strong> (below) designed by Nicole Hollis.
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-11328" title="housetour-sfshowcase-entryway" src="http://www.atticmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/housetour-sfshowcase-entryway.jpg" alt="housetour-sfshowcase-entryway" width="450" height="338" /></p>

Dubbed A "Cabinet of Curiosities", both the glass enclosed display case in the entry [above] and the impressive mass grouping of framed insects [below], that line the wall leading to the second level, immediately caught my attention.
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-11329" title="housetour-sfshowcase-stair" src="http://www.atticmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/housetour-sfshowcase-stair.jpg" alt="housetour-sfshowcase-stair" width="450" height="338" /></p>

Designer Orlando Diaz-Azcuy presented a glamorous <strong>Dining Room</strong> [below] with an emphasis on budget friendly materials. The corrugated gold finished wallpaper [close-up, middle] was exceptionally striking. Mirrors are covered with white lattice. (Click image to enlarge)
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-11330" title="housetour-sfshowcase-" src="http://www.atticmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/housetour-sfshowcase-.jpg" alt="housetour-sfshowcase-" width="450" height="151" /></p>

<strong>Living Room</strong> [below] from Myra Hoefer has silk taffeta draperies, linen slip covered sofa, tufted barrel chairs and handmade white plaster sconces from France flanking the fireplace's grand oval rope gilt mirror. Wall color is Benjamin Moore's Pashmina.
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-11331" title="housetour-sfshowcase-LR" src="http://www.atticmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/housetour-sfshowcase-LR.jpg" alt="housetour-sfshowcase-LR" width="450" height="338" /></p>

In <strong>Her Study-The Rose Room</strong>, [below] Benjamin Dhong used cascading fabric to frame the desk. Lampshade is covered in rich purple velvet.
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-11332" title="housetour-sfshowcase-her study" src="http://www.atticmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/housetour-sfshowcase-her-study.jpg" alt="housetour-sfshowcase-her study" width="450" height="600" /></p>

Gale Melton took an existing hallway closet [below] and transformed it into a <strong>Wrap Closet</strong>. Vintage wrapping paper lines the walls and compliments the companion colored flowered chandy. There's plenty of counter space and she stocked the closet with all the essentials for gift wrapping.
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-11333" title="housetour-sfshowcase-wrapcloset" src="http://www.atticmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/housetour-sfshowcase-wrapcloset.jpg" alt="housetour-sfshowcase-wrapcloset" width="450" height="600" /></p>

The drought tolerant <strong>Roof Garden</strong> [below] by Suzman and Cole Design Associates uses low maintenance plants in conjunction with sculptures and sitting areas. The day was a bit hazy, but the magnificent view of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge was still as breathtaking as ever.
