Book review update, Nov. ‘09

I’ve been collecting design books since roughly 1993 while living in India. That country’s colors and textures really awakened a love of design in me that I previously didn’t know existed. Prior to that, I had limited myself to the Laura Ashley look, which is lovely, but I have grown since then, due primarily to much reading. What I look for in design books is either the reputation of the author or the subject designer, or something fresh and different in the subject matter. I find I go through stages, now being very much into the idea of blending traditional with modern, as well as minimizing possessions to only those things that have meaning and/or beauty, and respecting the earth and what I’ll leave behind for my child. — Ivette
