ABOUT US

Atticmag.com is the website for Attic, an upcoming magazine of collecting and home design.

It is an interactive editorial community for those who share a passion for collectibles, antiques, auctions, architecture, home design, decorating, shopping and the decorative arts -- the same subjects to be covered in print editions of Attic.

Attic and Atticmag were founded by Editor-in-Chief Jane Freiman, who has more than twenty years experience as a newspaper and magazine editor.

The concept for Atticmag took shape during a 3-year long house renovation when Jane took to the internet to find sources for basics such as flooring, fixtures, paint and hardware. Within a few months, she had launched Kitchens We Love, her first online editorial venture -- a look-book of inspiration photos which, to date, has had more than 1.3 million views. At the same time, she enrolled at Parsons School of Design, in New York City, where she earned certification as an Interior Designer.

Once the construction ended, Jane looked for ways to make decorating the house easy and inexpensive. The market for antiques, vintage furniture and salvage items – also made more accessible by the internet – allowed her to search out older pieces to contrast with the new. As the house progressed, so did her research into collecting and interior design sources.

Along the way, she began to understand the stories, memories and nostalgia attached to furniture and collectibles as well as the value of finding new ways to view and buy home goods on websites. She also recognized the practical need for a virtual magazine centering on home design and collecting that was truly interactive -- one that offered a community with advice and information on care and maintenance in addition to inspiration photographs and valuable professional opinions and sources.

Jane is a second generation interior designer and a graduate of UCLA with a Bachelor’s degree in Art History. She has worked in the art worlds of New York and Paris, and learned the auction business at Sotheby-Parke Bernet, where her lifelong interest in antiques and the decorative arts began.

Freiman is also an award-winning cookbook author, food expert and restaurant consultant. So it’s no surprise that one aspect of her design interest focuses seriously on kitchens.

As a journalist, she has written for The Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, New York Newsday, New York Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar.
