About Us

Atticmag is an online magazine of home design and décor. Founded by Jane Freiman, a New York based newspaper and magazine editor and cookbook author, the blog focuses on home design, kitchens, bathrooms, interior decorating, antique furniture and rugs, collectibles and  high-quality home products.

Atticmag editor Jane FreimanThe concept for Atticmag took shape during the renovation of Jane’s house when she began searching for information about kitchens, baths, flooring, paint and hardware sources. Within a few months, she assembled a lookbook of kitchen and bathroom inspiration photos which received more than 1.3 million online views. When her house construction finished, Jane began taking classes at Parsons School of Design in New York City and earned a certificate in interior design. Along with searching for furniture, she began to plan Atticmag and two online friends became important contributors. Jane Tulanian, who runs a family rug business in Berkeley, California a co-founder who is no longer active. Allison Arnett, whose family owned an Alabama furniture business, is shopping editor. Allison and Jane continue to share their opinions along with images that illustrate their ideas.

Before launching Atticmag, Jane Freiman worked as a Managing Editor at the New York Daily News, overseeing the features and celebrity news in the nation’s largest daily tabloid. She was a contributing editor at New York magazine fox six years, the restaurant critic for New York Newsday and a syndicated food columnist at the Chicago Tribune. An award-winning cookbook author, she holds a certificate in Culinary Arts from Luberon College in Avignon, France and was a longtime student of James Beard. Early in her career, she worked in art galleries in New York and Paris. Jane is a native Californian whose parents owned a drapery and upholstery factory in Los Angeles. No surprise that Atticmag focuses on kitchen and interior design. Email: janef.atticmag(at)gmail(dot)com

Atticmag Shopping Editor Allison ArnettShopping Editor Allison Arnett’s fondness for furniture and accessories began as a child in her family’s furniture store. Allison loves to frequent antique shops and locally owned home stores in Alabama, where she and her husband own and manage a commercial real estate business. It is important when doing renovations and additions to check the building code in your area to make sure you are staying within regulations. Also take some time to compare home insurance options to make sure you are protecting your investment and loved ones.
