Hand-forged lighting fits many decorating styles.
Mr. Shops has been after me to purchase new light fixtures for our great room for at least three years. I was rushed to find suitable wall-mounted sconces toward the end of our build. Needing four put a pinch on price. Honestly, I’m happy with what we have, but he would like more light. Our options are new sconces or introduce a chandelier. Bare bulbs bother my eyes, so seeded or opaque glass would be needed to cut the glare. Add to this size matters: too tall will encroach on the cedar cathedral ceiling beams and too wide will interfere with the Belgian linen curtain panels (purchased, but yet to be hung). I keep going back and forth on a chandelier. Rule of thumb is width plus length of room equals diameter, plus 3″ per extra foot of room height over 8 feet high. In my case 23 + 20 = 43″, then another 42″ (22 feet at peak) for a whopping 7-foot diameter chandelier. Not only does that sound huge, it also sounds expensive.
You know the old saying “stop looking so hard and you’ll find love?” It evidently works for lighting too. Earlier today I was searching online for more photos of Jane’s recent Maple Furniture Kitchen post and I ran across Ironcad Ltd. They carry an intriguing collection of custom wrought iron lanterns, pendants, interior sconces and chandeliers with several that would be perfect for our home. Choices include ten finishes and five glass upgrades. They also offer drippy candle covers in paper, resin and wax. I recently changed all of our interior fixture candle sleeves to resin candle covers. The length is easily cut with a handsaw, but my locally owned lighting store did this for free. They are a small change, but add age and a bit of character to existing fixtures… including our new fixture or four.

I’m glad you found some that will work well! I completely agree–as soon as you stop looking so hard, it’s easier to find the right ones.
I’ll be checking back to see if you ended up with one or four.
Have a great evening.
Pam
I adore these wrought iron fixtures! They are so unique and a great alternative to so many ho hum styles.
