Blue and White Portuguese Tile Bath

blue and white Lascaux Portuguese tile bath by Joe NyeWhile the tile remains the focus in this master bath retreat, other elements help create the mood.

Interior designer Joe Nye based this master bath design on the lavish use of hand-painted Portuguese tiles.  The wainscoting consists of glazed tile from Lascaux, aptly named Blue Flower, with a solid blue border added top and bottom.  The empire tub is paired with an Edwardian style floor-mounted tub filler.  Sunlight streams through a pair of stained wood casement windows topped with a simple roman shade.  A pair of sconces provides soft lighting for evening baths.  Complimentary blue and white striped linen was chosen to slipcover a basic Parsons chair.  The combination of uncomplicated details enhance the senses rather than overwhelm.
