Bright yellow walls create drama in this small room.
Strong color in the bathroom isn’t considered “spa” but that wasn’t the point of this amazing DIY job in an old French country house. The vintage tub was rehabbed by painting the exterior black and accenting the feet in white, to match the inside. Color for the sunflower yellow walls was mixed by the owner, a photographer, who added thin cordons of black, reminiscent of frames on film, to function like molding on the walls. An oversized photo of a yellow curtain almost looks like a mirror on the tub ledge. As a scheme, sunflower-black-white is more often chosen for kitchens than bathrooms and a big yellow clearly requires big space. Given all that, it’s unforgettable.

I love this bathroom! I wish I had the space to go for high drama like this. I love so many elements in this one space. The enormous print almost had me fooled into believing it was a mirror. I think the graphic wallpaper in the adjoining room adds to the drama of the yellow, too.
I have this color combination in a small bathroom – bright yellow on top of the walls and white below separated by a black and white checkerboard wallpaper border. I use white and black graniteware for accent pieces such as a small basin to hold soaps and nail brushes. It certainly makes you wake up and face the day!!
I need to read more carefully…I thought the print was a mirror until I got to Laxsupermom’s comment. That is BRIGHT. I thought I was a color-loving person, but after seeing the greeeen kitchen and this bathroom, I am a bit dull in comparison!
