Christmas Room Variations

christmas decorated foyerTraditional decorating with a twist, alternative locations for holiday decor

This has been such a hectic season it wouldn’t surprise me if many of us were a bit tardy in getting to our seasonal decorating tasks. While most people have their traditions which dictate where the tree and the gifts are put each year, I thought these alternative spots and strategies might offer some interesting ideas.

Tree in the Foyer – A Norway spruce, dusted with white snow spray, is parked in the nook, right in front of a hallway chest. The cotton rug provides a makeshift tree skirt and surface for presents while giving focus to the open area.

It also creates a table-in-the-round for candles, books, gifts or even a more elaborate Christmas scene. The antique wire birdcage with Delft handle is an ingenious solution to having pillar candles lit for a long period of time, no worries about safety.

christmas decorated bedroomBedroom Gifts – When a trio of these stellar paper shades are suspended from the bed canopy the stars are out all day and night!  It’s fun to bring the spirit of the season into the boudoir.

Yep, I fall into that tardy group! I’m moving slowly but I’m getting stuff done.

Allison may be decorating for both of us this year. Every time I walk past a flower shop and see cut pine-boughs I think ‘I should get started” but I just haven’t yet. I’m so late!

Such lovely images that should inspire us all. Sadly I don’t think I’m being inspired to do anything…If these photos don’t inspire me I am a lost cause…now…I should at least decorate a little tree!!!

Really good ideas here! I only wish my foyer were large enough to accommodate a tree.

These are just gorgeous pictures! I feel like they are simpler than what I put myself through and I’m already rethinking for next year!
