Glass Tile Kitchen Glamor

In a transitional kitchen, glass mosaics are a modernizing element.
Glass tile has a glamorous surface quality making it hard to resist for backsplashes. I’m especially partial to the thin (1”x6”) stick mosaics. Whether used horizontally [above] or vertically, glass tile mosaics have an exceptional ability to reflect light and project color. At the same time they are surprisingly practical — heat-resistant, durable and easy to clean.

A slash of transparent sea-blue stacked glass tile is a natural color to use with coffee-colored wood cabinets in this kitchen by Toronto designers Biglar Kinyan. The orderly arrangement looks right at home in a modern space that’s also warm.

Iridescent Walker Zanger 1″ x 4″ Weave stick mosaics blend well with both the copper-toned counter and chestnut colored-wood cabinets. These come staggered, or offset like subway tiles and add a contemporary vibe to a transitional room.

Staggered green (1″ x 6″) tiles lend a stunning punch of color to this white Biglar Kinyan kitchen and look especially dazzling around the modern Bertazzoni range.

For a variation on the black-and-white kitchen Amoroso Design in San Francisco picked black tesserae, tiny 3/4-inch cube-shaped glass mosaics that have been used continually in homes since Roman times. The black glass is paired here with limestone counters.

Variegated brown mosaics add a textural dimension to this kitchen, since they blend with the cabinet color, however the wall of glass is extremely functional behind the pro-style range and vent hood.

love the green glass tiles with the stainless range. I need to do new tile in my kitchen. I thought I’d go with white subway tile….but glass tile sure would be fun.

I’m a shameless tile junkie. I think it adds so much. Wendy, I agree about the tan glass tiles. Those could make the most dazzling bathroom ever.

The blue tile is so sublime! Many sites say not to use blue in the kitchen because there are no blue foods found in nature but I just cannot get over how killer soothing blue glass tiles look. Like a happy coma!

Glass is always so refreshing – sheet, tile, mosaic or just window! I love the pictures and I recognized Callie and Karin’s green irridescent WZ tile pictures and atsmith’s mosaics straight away. Both still beautiful. I absolutely love blue and brown and the first Biglar Kinyan kitchen pictures are just smashing. Gorgeous!
