Christmas Room Variations

This has been such a hectic season it wouldn’t surprise me if many of us were a bit tardy in getting to our seasonal decorating tasks. While most people have their traditions – which often dictate where the tree and the gifts are put each year – I thought these alternative spots and strategies might offer some interesting last-minute solutions.

Tree in the Foyer [above] – A Norway spruce, dusted with white snow spray, is parked in the nook, right in front of a hallway chest. The cotton rug provides a makeshift tree skirt and surface for the presents and helps focus the open area.

Presents on the Porch – An oversized eucalyptus and pine wreath, hung suspended from the ceiling by metal-reinforced ribbon, almost looks like a chandelier in disguise. It also creates a table-in-the-round for candles, books, gifts or even a more elaborate Christmas scene. The antique wire birdcage with Delft handle is an ingenious solution to having pillar candles lighted for a long period of time without worrying about safety.

Bedroom Gifts – When a trio of these stellar paper shades are suspended from the bed canopy the stars are out all day and night! It’s fun to bring the spirit of the season into the boudoir and — when we were small  — my Mom used her room as the holding area until all the gifts were wrapped.  (Photos via H&G 12/09)

OMG! I love everyone of these ideas. Especially, the blue table on the porch with that pine and eucalyptus wreath overhead, and the birdcage with the candles.
Well, the tree and the stars over that gorgeous bed are pretty wonderful, too!
    Merry Christmas!

    Such lovely ideas…

I’m glad I’m not alone in this year’s CHristmas completely sneaking up on me. I have decorated, but not nearly to the extent I usually do. Still, the house is beautiful. I didn’t even get around to going out back to snip fresh greens for over the pictures etc. And now, with 2 feet of snow on the ground, it seems unlikely that will happen this year. Maybe I’ll send the kids out to do it! LOL!

Hosting Christmas Even dinner again this year. Okay….deep breaths….

What a beautifully decorated tree! And the stairway is oh so gorgeous as well.
    Merry Christmas.

Oh, what a grand idea! I love the porch / blue-table / “green” chandelier too! Brilliant idea.

My house isn’t decorated either, but then again, I seem to be on my normal trajectory. We usually only ever get around to any “decorating” on Xmas eve and that also because we finally feel ashamed to be the only un-festive quarters in a neighbourhood of festoonery!

Perhaps the porch wreath idea will be my salvation this year. It looks deliciously original.

These are all so different…but I like them all. I think the foyer one is my favorite…the rug is perfect! :-) Susan
