Handcrafted Serving Pieces
By Allison ~ October 7th, 2009. Filed under: Allison Shops, Décor.

When I ran across several glorious finds this week, my first thought was I just have to share with my blog friends! Not only will these items collectively look good on your table, but individually they are fantastic gift ideas for the fast approaching holiday season. I fell instantly in love with this ceramic serving platter. Tunisian artists decorate each piece by hand with a intricate mandala design. The stunning deep hues of the Honey pattern will be a beautiful addition to the table or make an interesting wall display.

Vintage inspired French frills include a wood handled corkscrew and bottle opener duo. Old world details are also found in the alluring cheese utensil set. The exceptionally smooth mango wood handles on both sets are no doubt silky to the touch….or as Aunt Fran would say “they feel like butta!” The palm wood salt and pepper shakers will not only bring seasoning to the table, but dramatic visual texture.

More visual delights include the birdseye maple breadboards. Their graceful shapes pair nicely with the handcrafted cherry or maple bread knives. I am a big fan of salad scoops – so much easier to use than regular salad tongs. Each olivewood pair is one-of-a-kind creation by Kenya artisans. While function and style are certainly important considerations before purchasing, it’s ultimately the feeling each items brings forth that leads to enjoyment. Wouldn’t you agree?

Those salad scoops might be just the thing to get our Sunday dinner chef for the holidays! Have never seen them before. Good to know you find them easier to use.
They have some beautiful wooden bowls. Do you know if only certain woods are appropriate to use for mixing and serving salads? I see one made from Lenga wood that I’d love to use as a salad bowl.

I’m glad everyone is finding something they love – I love shopping for others! Le Souk Ceramique also has other serving pieces and appetizer plates available in the Honey pattern. I may have to order something to keep on our breakfast room table.
Anne, I would think you could use any type of wood bowl as long as you follow the “wood bowl rules.” Don’t put in the dishwasher, do not submerge in the sink, use mild dish liquid and lightly mineral oil it now and then.

Thanks. That does sound logical that any wood would hold up pretty well, with the appropriate ‘wood salad bowl’ care.

In agreement with everyone else on the platter. Wow is that stunning.
And what cave have I been living in to have missed the invention of salad “scoops”? This gal definitely needs to go shopping more often

I have a serious weakness for breadboards and cutting boards, and these are gorgeous. So completely simple – modern and timeless at the same time. i love them.
