When San Francisco designer Susan Harris remodeled this California bathroom, she did so around the theme Bath Time!  The graphic style of the homeowner’s own rug is a terrific example of incorporating a patterned area rug in lieu of a solid color bath mat.  It also illustrates the impact achieved by accessorizing with the right area rug.  In this case, it sets the mood for a room that was designed for both children and adults.  When I asked Susan about using this particular rug, she responded it “pulls the colors and shapes together in a fun, mature way.”

[Above] Triangular and circular shapes combined with nature inspired colors juxtaposed against a solid dark colored vanity allows the rug to become the room’s art.

The jewel box blue tiles are 3/4″ back-painted recycled glass.  Susan chose them because they are “welcoming to the touch; their textured surfaces offer tactile interest while hiding water spots.”  Also note that she masterfully designed the tub with the showerhead and faucet on the opposite wall of the vanity to provide easier access to controls and room to be comfortable while bathing children.
