French Tapestry Paintings

Mademoiselle Fifi, also known as Fifi Flowers Design, painter of all things French and fabulous had a painting giveaway on her blog this past week and I won! She surprised me with a painting of my virtual evening in Paris with handsome French actor Olivier Martinez. My heart is still aflutter.
As a token of my appreciation to Fifi, today I am featuring another type of painting from her favorite country, something both she and passionate rug lovers will enjoy: preliminary paintings for Aubusson tapestries.
Used as a guide for creating Aubussons, one of these antique paintings, in excellent condition, can run thousands of dollars.

The following group of early 19th century paintings are from past Aspire Auctions (they show wear).

That’s so interesting, Jane. I didn’t know that the rugs were based on existing works of art.
Just love the painting of you and Olivier! What a nice momento of the occasion, and life around the ‘hoods here
I was checking out Fifi’s work yesterday and it’s so wonderful. She really captures the lively and beautiful spirit of France. And they’re affordable, too! I must come up with a spot for a few over here : )

That was a fabulous giveaway by Fifi. How unfortunate I missed it! Your article here on Aubusson rugs is wonderful too. I simply love those rugs and am glad to learn more about them.
