Bedroom Makeovers
By Jane T ~ August 27th, 2009. Filed under: Makeovers, Passion for Rugs.
Recently Jane F. teamed up with our pal Anne of Virtual Room Previews to tackle her kitchen redo. We’ve always been amazed with Anne’s virtual techno-wizardry. So much, that we’ve asked her to be a regular here on Atticmag.
This week I had the pleasure of working with Anne on altering 3 bedrooms to show the impact changing something as simple as a rug can make in a room. Take a look at the “Afters” we collaborated on.

Before: Bedroom from Pottery Barn Teen with white rug placed halfway underneath the bed.
After – What we did:
1. I chose a sweet floral rug in shades of pink, lilac and green from KAS (Kidding Around 422 Princess Dreams) to cozy up the floor.
2. Anne placed the rug further up towards the headboard, underneath the nightstand leg.
We like: The way the dark pink flowers play off the lampshade and throw and the green ties into the wall color. The look is fun and perfect for a pre-teen.

Before: I featured this designer room in How to Choose a Bedroom Rug. The dark colored rug is placed completely under the bed and chair.

After – What we did:
1. I chose Pottery Barn’s Adeline rug to takes us in a lighter direction.
2. Ann placed the rug horizontally extending beyond the sides of the bed and halfway underneath the chair.
We like: The light colored field of the rug and the horizontal direction makes the area feel more open.

Before: Bedroom from hgtv’s 2009 Green Home. Rug and bed skirt are close in color, lampshades are white.

After – What we did:
1. I chose a patterned rug (Carnaby Swirl from Company C) in shades of blue to tie in with wall color.
2. Anne colored the white lampshades, changed the pattern of the pillow on the bed and cast shadows from the window onto the rug.
We like: How the tinted lampshades bring the green in the rug up to eye level and the patterned swirls adds movement to the floor and softens the square lines of the bed, nightstand and mirror. We had fun jazzing this room up even though we liked the serene feel of the Before.

I like all your changes. For me, the twin bed room – changing the axis of the rug – is the biggest change. It’s like the new new can catch it’s breath.

I love before and afters!! I actually have that PB Adeline rug in my kitchen! It is always so fun to see how making just one change in a room can greatly impact the final result. Great post!

Interesting how much a simple thing can change the whole look of a room. The first one makes the biggest wow in my mind. With the white rug, it could be a guest room, but with the other, it says teen to me.

I love the virtual makeovers! The Afters my favorite, although I do like the first bedroom both ways.

Very fun make overs– Like you said — the original ones have merit as well. but the simple changes added some pop.
