Karastan, originally promoted as Americas “Wonder Rug” – the trusty workhorse carpet, has once again demonstrated its unbeatable quality.

The Molly Brown House Museum [above] – former home to Titanic Survivor (Unsinkable) Molly Brown recently replaced the original ca. 1971 Karastan Multicolor Panel Kirman that covered the home’s staircase.

Why is that news?  Because it was switched out for the exact same rug. [Photo above & below via Home Textiles Today]

Curator Kelly Rasmussen sums it up this way:

“With more than one million visitors since the early seventies, this carpet has held up remarkably well,” she explained. “We feel it’s a high quality carpet and that, with all the colors in the carpet, it brings a special appearance to the house. People have come to associate that carpet with the house.”

Introduced in 1938, the Multicolor Panel Kirman (#717) has over 50 colors, making it what we call a great “go-with” rug.  It’s one of the most popular Karastan patterns I see come into my shop for cleaning.  The panel design combined with such a varying number of hues help hide daily dirt, making it a perfect choice for high traffic areas.

Karastan passed muster when they placed a rug on the ground for visitors of the 1933-34 World’s Fair to walk upon and once again with another million footsteps, this time at the Molly Brown House Museum.
