House Tour: More Virginia Farmhouse Modern

Welcome to Marsha and Yank’s house tour. This is Part 2 so we suggest – instead of starting here on the porch — you scroll down one post and see the first floor first.  But no matter. You can start upstairs.

Painting the master bedroom Sherwin Williams’ Euro Gray gives it a peaceful and calming ambience. When Marsha and Yank were first married they bolted two single beds with antique and iron brass headboards together to create a California King. Seven windows in the bedroom [below] overlook the lake in back of the house. Chairs are Martha Stewart faux bamboo.

Even the master bathroom antique tub is positioned by the window for a lake view. The faucet is by Elizabethian and an antique pie safe is used to store towels. Bead board gives the bathroom a country aura but the double vanity is thoroughly modern, with pedestal sinks by Porcher, faucets by Delta, Rejuvenation medicine chests and Restoration Hardware sconces. A gray concrete shelf repeats material used downstairs in the kitchen.

Marsha and Yank have three grandsons who live in Maine. Because the antique tester beds seemed too girly for the boys when they visit, the testers were removed and real leather baseballs were added as finials to coordinate with bedding from Pottery Barn Kids.

A second guest room has a more feminine air because Marsha expects it to be used when her new baby granddaughter visits from Florida. The bed is from American Iron Beds dressed in Ralph Lauren and the chest a painted antique. There’s a more private suite for additional guests over the garage (and plenty of space for family).

Back on the first floor, a 34-foot long screened in porch is accessible from the living room, dining room, kitchen and computer/mud room and overlooks the lake. Sliding doors, left, go to the kitchen and the door at the end of the porch is for the living room. Given the relatively mildness of Virginia weather, Marsha and Yank use the porch about 8 months a year.

A step below the screen porch, a paved patio with Adirondack chairs offers an unfettered view of the lake around which most views from Marsha and Yank’s beautiful home were designed. (Photo via Porfolio Weekly)

We thank them for this tour.

Marsha thank you so much for sharing your home with us. I could move in and feel as though I had lived there all my life. So beautiful and welcoming. And the antiques…*swoon* …..sigh!
