Hand block printed organic designs created by a Philadelphia husband and wife team
The gifted artists within Galbraith & Paul’s Philadelphia studio workshop must ooze with creativity when designing their bold graphic patterns. Their organic designs are transferred onto textiles using the ancient technique of hand block printing. The simplest, but slowest, method of textile printing allows spectacular results. The photographs seem to make work look more like fun. I would love to trade a week of lazy days at home for one day of printing.
The lively patterns of their handmade fabrics are punctuated with color. Velvet and silks will add a layer of luxury, while linen allows rooms to remain family friendly. Upholstery or curtains made with these textiles have an elegant spirit in a fresh and modern room, and can be magical for children.
Playful fabric pendant lighting with hand block printed linen and silk shades are of classic shapes, but not boring. When over a dining table, one would become a singular sensation yet be equally seductive in groups for island or countertop lighting.
Last but not least, are the G&P custom hand-tufted floor coverings recently featured on Atticmag. The 100% New Zealand wool and silk rugs are available through designer showrooms. Their products are works of art for the home.
