Vintage Monell Sink

vintage monell sink with an integral drainboard and backsplashSalvage and vintage fixture fans will appreciate this nickel- and zinc-look.

An alloy of copper and nickel, monell was a used to make sinks at the end of the 19th Century and into the early 20th. This big old guy, an original scullery-style sink — often located in a separate dish- and pot-washing room in  old kitchens called the scullery –)  also boasts an integral back splash and drainboard with runnels. The pair of original goose-neck faucets are hot and cold taps used before faucets had mixer valves – note the porcelain cap details. This picture was taken in the looloodesign.com booth at a home show — looloo is a vintage and antique kitchen and bath specialist.
